This is mostly for me because I keep running into the same evasive issues and got tired of figuring it out every time, but hopefully it will be helpful to someone else. There is actually an interactive version of this HOWTO out on the net, if you know where to look, and it will actually answer your questions!

Fedora 9 didn't need anything! Yay openchrome! Looks like the acpi and IRQ issues are part of the past now. This was absolutely the most FLAWLESS and pleasing linux install I have ever experienced, considering the hell this laptop has put me through in the past. Realistically, I'm a little disappointed that I didn't have a ton of things to fix or figure out. Where's the challenge in that? There was a few little ones: Wireless defaults to 1M with the rt2500, but works out of the box and connects to anything. Set rate to 54M. Installed with external monitor, so I had to fix xorg.conf the first time without it. Actually I installed with an external monitor attached because I needed to do that in the past, which you would know from reading my past howtos had I actually gotten around to writing them...
